Fusion Hotspot Service - Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a Fusion Hotspot?
- A Fusion Hotspot is a location that provides high-speed Internet access to its customers with wireless-enabled devices, such as laptop computers. While at your restaurant, hotel or condominium, these customers can log on to the Internet and even access their corporate intranet.
- Why should I choose Fusion Connex for my system?
- We believe the Fusion Hotspot Service technology is the best on the market. Our team has over 25 years experience in the networking industry, and we pride ourselves on our "Customer Comes First" philosophy.
- How does Wi-Fi work?
- Wi-Fi, or wireless fidelity, allows your customers to enjoy the speed of a broadband Internet connection - without wires. The technology works as a cordless phone does, transmitting a wireless signal from a base station to a device. Customers simply come to your café, hotel or airport lounge, turn on their wireless-enabled laptop, sign in and surf the Web.
- Do I need an IT person on staff?
- No, we provide a turnkey solution. This means we provide all the necessary equipment and labor to make the system work. All you need to do is select one employee to be our main contact. Working directly with this person, Fusion Connex can ensure the system runs smoothly and exceeds your expectations.
- What if I don't have Internet access?
- At minimum, you will need to secure broadband connection to the Internet as Fusion ConneX does not provide this connection for its customers.
- How fast is it?
- Wi-Fi transmits data at very high speeds, well into the megabit range. Factors that can affect connection speed include the number of users, distance between device and access point, metal obstructions that block the signal, and the speed of the wired line to the access point.
- What's my role in the installation process?
- Fusion Connex's turnkey solution makes installation a snap. We'll take care of everything. All you need to do is provide electrical outlets and a secure location for the equipment. Should you have a unique location with special requirements, our team will find a solution that works for you.
- After installation will there be any visible equipment or wires?
- We want your customers to notice the wireless service, not the wires. Our Customer Comes First philosophy guarantees we'll keep the equipment as concealed as possible.
- How long will installation take and will it disrupt my business?
- Our Fusion Hotspot Service takes just a few days to install, depending on the characteristics of your space and the status of your Internet connection. We try to make the installation process as unobtrusive as possible but at times we may need to work in common areas.
- Is this a proprietary solution?
- Our operation system support software, access controller and monitoring services are proprietary and can be used only with Fusion Hotspots. Our hardware (access points, antennas...) is proven technology from quality companies, conforms to IEEE standards for 802.11a/b/g wireless protocols, and ensures seamless add-ons in the future. Put these pieces together and you get a state-of-the-art, adaptable system that works with the majority of wireless-enabled devices.
- Will my customers need to provide their own wireless-enabled devices?
- That's up to you. Most of our clients require customers to bring their own. You may ask us to provide radio cards that customers can use for an added fee. If your business wishes to supply computers for customer use, Fusion Connex can help you acquire machines from any major manufacturer.
- What type of security does the system provide?
- Our Fusion Hotspot Service system provides optional IPSec encryption from a user's device to the edge of the internal network. The system also supports VPN software used for accessing corporate networks. In an effort to promote safe computing, Fusion Connex provides in-depth documentation on the potential security risks on public networks.
- Can a customer use my system to access a corporate network?
- Yes, providing the corporate network allows connections from the Internet. Most corporations secure such connections via VPN software, which is supported by Fusion Hotspot Service technology.
- How does a customer access the service?
-
- Your customer comes to your Fusion Hotspot Service location, opens a wireless-enabled device and launches a Web browser. On the screen they see a sign in page branded for your location.
- Your customer signs in using a pre-paid card, pre-assigned user name and password, or purchases time using a credit card.
- The sign in is confirmed and your customer can access the Internet.
- Will my customers have to make any configuration changes to their wireless-enabled devices before connecting to my Fusion Hotspot Service system?
- Minimal configuration changes, if any, are required to connect to your system. Advanced users who've configured their devices for other networks may have a few extra steps when accessing your system.
- What is the range of the Fusion Hotspot Service?
- Each access point and access controller module has an embedded antenna for an average range of roughly 300 feet. The actual range depends upon the unique characteristics of your location.
