After seven years, 802.11n has finally been ratified. Do we care? Yes, we should! When? Well, that depends... As we experienced with 802.11b, when PCs began shipping with 802.11g, users quickly realized that 'g' was faster and security was better. Although 'b' & 'g' were compatible, Wi-Fi networks had to catch up to 'g'. The same is happening with 802.11n. Backward compatible with 'b' & 'g', more and more users will want to take advantage of the improved throughput, range and reliability that 'n' offers. Notebooks, NetBooks and any new Wi-Fi device hitting the market today are 802.11n. According to a recent article in Network World, written by C.J. Mathias,
...802.11n will play a major role in the future of cellular networks, as the carriers increasingly rely on Wi-Fi to offload both voice and data on their crowded (and expensive) spectrum.
